The Muazzin of Nuneaton Mosque

In October 2021 we lost our dear father and muazzin of Nuneaton Mosque Haji Cassim Bhagatte. Wherever we hear the athan, be it in another country, a recording, youtube etc, we think of our father and his love for calling the people of Nuneaton to Salah.

This Ramadhan certainly made us realise how much time he gave to the community and was blessed to do so for over 15 years.

 

We can still hear him telling us how he couldn't join us on an outing or meal as he was on adhan duty. On the odd occasion where we persuaded him to he would contact Hafiz Ilyas or Muhammed Amin saab to cover him. May Allah reward them all abundantly for their service.

 

Over the last couple of weeks, we've missed him so much and found comfort in the reward of performing the adhan.

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives the call to prayer for twelve years will be guaranteed Paradise, and for each day sixty hasanaat will be recorded for him by virtue of his adhaan, and thirty hasanaat by virtue of his iqaamah.” Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 728; classed as saheeh by al-Mundhiri and al-Albaani, as stated in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 248. 

 

Legacy

Alhumdulillah, we've had many messages from our community telling us how much they also miss him, especially at iftar time, when he does his “waktar hoh giyyah” in his French accent.

 

As a token of our appreciation for his service to the community, we, as his children would like to honour his legacy by the construction of a masjid in his name via Ummah Welfare Trust (UWT). We understand that in current times donations may be difficult, we therefore request that If you are unable to donate, please remember him in your dua and recite Surah Iklas three times on his behalf.
