Scottish Desks Get New Haitian Life

I have been the School Administrator of a small impoverished school in Dame Marie, Haiti, called Solidarite Dame-Marienne Ecole Communautaire for the last three years.  The school was in very bad condition when our charity, Solidarity Dame Marian took over the running of it. The roof leaked, the teachers hadn’t been paid in three years, the students had no text books or supplies but with a lot of challenging work and many generous donors I finally had those issues resolved at the beginning of the school year in 2016.  It was going to be a glorious year!

Then less than two months into the school year disaster hit, category 4, Hurricane Matthew devastated Dame Marie, the worst hurricane to hit Haiti in over 50 years. Solidarite Dame-Marienne Ecole Communautaire was destroyed along with most of the student and teacher’s homes along the coast. I was there for the hurricane and nothing could have prepared me for the aftermath.

Because of the hurricane and my worldwide TV news appearances and social media a gentleman from Vancouver, BC, Canada offered to set up a new charity and build a new school for us. Myself and my husband are on the Board of Directors, the plan is to continue to build schools in the region. Please check out the link to see the progress, we are truly blessed!

Subsequently a man from Scotland contacted me and offered to help with school furniture for the new school, and 100 refurbished bikes. He is the founder and Executive Director of Scottish charity, Surplus Educational Supplies Foundation
that specializes in the supply of school resources to those in need. David actively seeks out these supplies and re-cycles them by using containers to ship them all over the world to schools desperate for such items. He has helped schools in Nicaragua, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia, Tanzania.  His next project and he says his last will will our school in Dame Marie, Haiti!  http://www.haitirelief.org.uk

David now has a 40’ container filled with 100 bikes refurbished by Break the Cycle, who are young offenders in Scotland and school furniture and supplies.

What is the GoFundMe For?

This GoFundMe is to raise the port funds needed when the container reaches Port au Prince, Haiti. The estimated cost will be about $2,500 USD ($3,400 CDN). This will cover all port costs and transportation to Dame Marie which is about 340km, a good 10 hour drive due to road conditions.

PLEASE NOTE DONATIONS ARE IN CANADIAN CURRENCY, SO $25.00 DONATION FROM THE USA WILL SHOW AT ABOUT  $19.00 ON  YOUR BANK STATEMENT AS IT WILL BE COVERTED TO USD.

IF YOU WISH TO DONATE  IN USD DIVIDE IT BY .74 AND IT WILL BE IN CANADIAN CURRENCY.

SO IF YOU WANT TO DONATE$25.00 USD IT WILL BE ABOUT $34.00 CDN.

We have been so blessed by these  2 men reaching out to us and wanting to bring a brighter future to the children by building a new school and by providing the furniture. We would like to have the furniture in Dame Marie by the time the school is finished in late October.

The 100 bikes will mean teachers and children will not have to walk miles to school and will provide some the ability to start a small business and will certainly make it much easier for many to collect safe drinking water.

The school children are collecting sand to help build THEIR new school!

Please help this worthy cause if you can either by donating or posting this on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to encourage others. I thank you with all my heart!
