Haiti Ocean Project (HOP), a 501c3 nonprofit United States organization, will facilitate the collection and purchasing of the monetary donations and goods needed by the Haitians in the Nippes Department to help recover from the devastation caused by the recent earthquake and tropical storm.  

On Saturday,  August 14th, 2021 a 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocked southern Haiti and villages along the entire southern coastline, many of which HOP has strong connections to through the fishermen and other locals. Many people have lost their entire homes, all their belongings and in need of basic essential items just to survive. Those that still have homes standing, are afraid to return inside, due to multiple aftershocks and the fear their homes will collapse, and they will be crushed under rubble. Two days after the earthquake hit, on Monday, August 16th, 2021, Tropical Storm Grace spent more than a day hovering over the same area, wreaking further havoc on the area, with torrential rain and wind. Already damaged homes are left more damaged and vulnerable.

We are focused on getting supplies to these battered and remote communities.  Compounding the problem is that some of these villages are only accessible by sea and/or remote dirt roads.   People in many villages also live in the mountains, far from the main road and have no help from anyone.  The people in all these communities are totally disconnected from any available and useful sources of aid.   

Mayors of neighboring villages are calling us with desperate pleas for their communities. These people are exhausted and overwhelmed and in need of immediate assistance.  We must raise funds to acquire necessary items to ship to Haiti as soon as possible.  The items include: drinking water, nonperishable food, tents, sleeping bags, tarps, clothes/shoes and any bedding or towels, tools, solar phone chargers, solar lanterns, toiletries and basic medical supplies and any other essential items.  We are also in need of a truck to transport all these items, as we have to borrow one to deliver all the goods.

From the donations, we will be purchasing a shipping container and the donated items will be sent to Haiti by a local Haitian owned shipping company from Port Everglades, Florida to the Port of Miragoane, Haiti.  The Port of Miragoane is located eight miles east of our village, and our container will be transported to us directly.  We know the owner of the shipping company and have connections at the port.   We included a map to show our location and the proximity of the port of Miragoane.  We are located where the red pin is, and the port is where the purple pin.
