Hurricane Relief, Savannette, Haiti

NOTE: We just got back from working in Savannette, but there is still a crazy need for help in Haiti. Read the latest update for more, and we will provide more details soon.

Hurricane Matthew absolutely ravaged parts of Haiti, as one resident in Les Cayes told CBS News that "it was like a bulldozer just passed by" and that "everything is gone".

Working with Travis Knipple of F1 Engineering, four of us with travel to Savannette (Les Cayes), Haiti during the last week of October to do anything we can possibly do to help the residents of the devasted community.

Josh Knipple, Jeremy Barclay, Matt Trent, and I (Sean) will fly out on Tuesday (October 25th) with chainsaws in hand to help remove fallen trees. Our main goal for the trip will be to help as many families as possible get back in their homes with some sort of roof over their heads.

We won't use the money you donate on our flight costs (we are paying for that); rather, this is an opportunity for you to sponsor building supplies or projects in the community that so badly needs it. All of the money you donate will be directly used to help Haitians in need.

$25: We hope to purchase at least 100 tarps to distribute throughout the community, because that is the fastest and most economical way to address the need for rain protection of the homes. We’ll buy tarps in Port Au Prince, and will add materials to tie the tarp down into place. $25 will get a tarp on a house that already has rafters in place.

$60: $60 would allow us to get lumber to put up supports under the tarp, as well, for homes where the structure of the roof was completely destroyed.

$10/man/day: We will hire Haitians to use machetes to help clear downed trees. These people need income, so we want to sponsor them to work on a project that will help their families and their community. Paying the men will be about $10/man/day if you would like to contribute to that, as well.

$450: If a family completely lost their shelter/home and does not have the means to rebuild, Travis at F1 Engineering has plans that could build a secure 12’x12′ single room building for about $450.

These prices, of course, are just some recommendations to show you what your money will go towards. Any and all money donated will be used to help the people of Haiti.

Right now, finances are the biggest support needed in Haiti. We will use it to buy materials locally since importing things is not only slow and expensive, but this way we support the local economy as well.

Thank you for all of your support. We need your prayers for the Savannette community and all of the people affected by this most recent disaster.
