Haiti Earthquake Support for Town of Lasile
My name is Gardy Deaussou and I am raising funds to support my hometown of Lasile which was devastated by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit on August 14, 2021. Lasile is located just 4 miles within the epicenter of the earthquake. The home where I was raised, and where my immediately family still resides, was completely destroyed, along with the homes of my 2 aunts and cousins that reside nearby. Beyond that, however, the entire countryside was completely wiped out: more than 80% of the homes have been destroyed, along with food stands, small businesses, churches, you name it. The town's hospital which many rely on for basic healthcare services was damaged and I received reports of many witnessing persons die before their eyes as they awaited medical care. Before the earthquake most Lasile residents were struggling to have life's basic necessities and now they are all virtually living in the "open air", cooking under umbrellas as rain continues to pour, sleeping on mattresses still muddied and dampened by the earthquake and hurricane rains, and eating whatever they can find just to stay alive. It breaks my heart, but I know there is a wider community that cares and every bit counts to helping those who have lost all but their very lives. Last weekend, we delivered 14 small tents, bread, soap, toothpaste among other things, but that was less than a drop in the bucket. We hope to buy bigger tents for temporary housing with the prospect of building permanent homes for some folks. I thank you in advance for whatever contribution you choose to make. The need is great, but together we can help Lasile rebuild. May God bless you and your household for your kind support.
To aid in our fundraising efforts Loring has agreed to match all employee donations through September 30th up to $5,000. Any Loring employee who would like to contribute please use the hashtag #LoringCares so your contribution can be counted towards the company match.
