Haiti Earthquake Relief-Community Shelter & Home

We are sure most of you have heard about the horrific earthquake that has hit the already struggling nation of Haiti. Many of you have wanted to help but didn’t know how. Here is a way you can help us get funds directly in the hands that need it. No middle man. No admin costs.

Allow us to introduce to you our Haitian “son” John Mayko Lymat, his wife Brune-Ang, and their son Myke. John has been our son since he was 7 years old and we ‘adopted him’ through a compassionate organization. Our adoption enabled him to have an education and daily meals. John excelled at his studies and earned a right to secondary education graduating with a degree in education. This enabled him to secure a job at a local bank which is where he was when the earthquake hit.

The walls of the bank partially crumbled but John was, thankfully, alive and unharmed. As soon as he could he made his way to his wife and son. He found them both alive and unharmed but also found their home collapsed and all their belongings destroyed. Because it was unsafe and unlivable there, he joined together with other families in an open grassy area and that is where they spent their first night, sleeping on the ground, standing guard through the night, and comforting the children with each aftershock.

You may have also heard this is the monsoon season in Haiti which brings with it tropical storms. These are upon them as well. These families, 23 counting children, are now working to build a hangar- like structure where they can be safe from the elements, provide necessities for their children, and begin to rebuild their lives. They believe they can live in this communal way for at least 6-12 months. Because of the black market, basic necessities (water, bread, food items, baby items, building materials, etc.) have skyrocketed.

John has spoken with an engineer who believes they can build a simple structure that can withstand the elements (especially this hurrican season) to accommodate 23 people. Knowing the need and the generosity of John and the Haitian people, this number may grow. The structure will have a concrete floor, walls made of plywood and 2x6 timber, covered by a sheet metal roof.

It is our hope to raise $5,000 to help support this building effort and help provide basic needs for these families as they try to weather the continued aftershocks/storms and begin anew. Funds are needed ASAP! This is a dire, emergency situation.

We communicate with John via Facebook messenger for daily updates. He is coordinating this effort and is very trustworthy. He gives us regular updates and is highly accountable. Every dollar given will go to good use.

Thank you for reading and thank you for your generosity! Every little bit helps!
