Haircut for LGBT Migrant Women Supports

Can you help us lend a hand to LGBT migrant women in Ireland? I'm raising money in aid of AkiDwA, to support their set-up of a support group for LGBT women who have experienced violence within and/or outside of Ireland.

On Thursday 14th of September, I will be cutting the length of my hair (14inches/35 cm - more than the big school ruler ) ….and I’m hoping we can come together to raise €350 by then! Every donation will help!

Aim? A once-off event with the view to more lasting supports

The €350 raised now will allow the hosting of an LGBT-safe-space event before Christmas!! The activity will be decided by the women in the group, but options that have been suggested so far include Capture the flag, a movie night or Strength and Conditioning class). This will fill the immediate and pressing need for activities to combat isolation, shame, stigma and stress faced by LGBT migrant women.

For the longer term, AkiDwA is seeking funding for LGBT supports. Such an event will provide evidence for the demand and need for these safe spaces. That in turn will be a big help for securing funding for durable supports!

Thank you in advance for your contribution if you can make one to this cause! Having worked for AkiDwA for two years, with many LGBT migrant women who don’t have a dedicated and culturally-sensitive safe space to go to….it will mean so much to me and my former colleagues if we can help bridge this gap!

More information about AkiDwA: Established in 2001, AkiDwA advocate for inclusion and support of migrant women including women refugees and those seeking international protection in Ireland.
