Sometimes friendship means showing up in a big way — and that’s exactly what Thom Holwell is doing.

On Wednesday 29th October, during lunchtime at school, Thom will be shaving his head in support of his close friend Henry, who is currently undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer affecting his leg.

Thom has been growing his hair since 2019 — more than six years of dedication, personality, and patience! His long hair has become part of who he is. But when he heard about what Henry was going through, Thom decided it was time to put that hair to good use.

“I’ve been thinking about shaving my head for a while,” Thom said, “but I wanted it to mean something. Henry’s one of my good mates, and I wanted to do something to show I’ve got his back.”

By shaving his head, Thom hopes to raise funds to help Henry and his family as they navigate the challenges of treatment, recovery, and everything that comes with it. More importantly, he hopes to raise awareness and hope — reminding everyone that when one of us is struggling, the whole community can come together to lift them up.

Thom’s courage, empathy, and selflessness have inspired his teachers, friends, and family. What started as a simple idea has turned into a powerful message of support, solidarity, and friendship.

So, on Thursday lunchtime, when the clippers come out and the crowd gathers, remember: this isn’t just about losing hair — it’s about showing heart.
