My friend and co-worker, Jessica Spencer, was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer in November. She is going in for a mastectomy on December 19th, and will begin chemotherapy four to six weeks later. Because she's young - and healthy otherwise - the doctors want to treat this cancer aggressively.
Last week we went to the wig shop to find a replacement for when Jessica's locks take a leave of absence for about a year. She found a lovely lady named "Gwyneth" (we discovered that the wigs are referred to as ladies) which will be a very good replacement - even colored to Jessica's “natural” hair color. ;)
So here's where you help - Gwyneth will cost $2,000 (which seems like a lot, until you realize how much we spend on our hair throughout the year) and I want to help Jessica take this stress off her plate. Frankly, trying to explain everything that is happening right now to her two-year-old and four-year-old is stressful enough. Cancer is beyond explanation to them - trying to tell them why mommy is losing her hair and why mommy looks are drastically changing is beyond scary - I cannot imagine.
Many of you have asked what you can do - this is a tiny way we can help Jessica to feel more like herself. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated! Let's show Jessica we are her tribe.
