Olivia (or as we call her, Ollie/Olive) was diagnosed earlier this year with Alopecia. She has been losing her hair rapidly since the diagnosis and will be shaving the remaining hair this week. She has been such a positive kid throughout the experience and has expressed nothing but acceptance since day one.
Several people reached out to the Futrell family and informed them that they shared a similar experience. It was through those conversations that they learned about a place in Tallahassee called Hair Options. They have a special technique of applying real human hair to the scalp which lasts for approximately four to six months and would allow her to go swimming and be an active kid without the worry of a wig slipping off or needing to be removed. Unfortunately this is not a cheap service and requires frequent maintenance. It is 1000 per system and each system lasts 4-6 months. In addition, there are maintenance appointments every 4-6 weeks which are 150 dollars. This could mean anywhere between 3300-4300 for a year of treatment, Of course we all hope her hair starts to grow back in before then! But just in case, my hope is to help the Futrell family offset the cost of the first system and those maintenance appointments.
If you feel compelled and are able to donate, I know that she is one sweet kiddo and she would be so grateful.
