Aloha Kākou,

My name is Ka’imi Ka’wika Haina. As many know around the world, August 8th would become one of the most tragic natural disasters in Hawaii history. The world watched as the city of Lāhaina, the first capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii burned in a devastating and freak wildfire sparked by downed power lines fueled by unexpected hurricane force gusts of wind. Unfortunately many residents and visitors were not able to escape the fire that took hold of a city in less than an hour. By the grace of God I am reaching out to you to support my Ohana who fortunately made it out of Lāhaina in time. Like many know, residents are not allowed to go home due to the recovery efforts which will take months if not years before residents are able to live in the area again.

My Ohana was displaced leaving their home and belongings behind. They were living with friends shortly after the disaster, and now thankfully they were able to relocate to a hotel.

Many Lāhaina residents including my Ohana don’t have a timeline for when they can get back, or if they can get back to their home. Because of this I am asking for any monetary donations to help them with the cost of living from food, to replacing any items they lost in the fire. My Aunty Nedz mentioned they felt so fortunate to make it out with their lives and much of their home intact that they felt guilty taking in any support. But because of those who reached out who personally know me and have been keeping up with me and their situation I’ve decided to make a platform for ya’ll to donate directly to my Ohana. I appreciate the Aloha and support from you all and am speechless by the amount of support the world has shown to my home.
