Hailie and Laurel's National Skiing Competition

Hailie and Laurel have been working very hard the past few ski seasons on their technique, form, and skills on the ski mountain. They have logged countless hours, have sacrificed many a sleepover, and get up very early every weekend morning to train with their teams. Competitions and advancements have been made, and both girls were invited to compete in the National USASA Freeski Competition in Copper Mountain, CO April 8-13th, 2022!

 

We are over the moon proud of these two athletes whom we have the honor of calling our daughters. This is a few steps beyond what Mom and Dad imagined they were signing up to sponsor, so we are fundraising to offset costs. I made a list of all the costs, and just to go to Nationals alone is in the $6,000 range. We don't expect anyone to pay for the adult/parent costs, that's on us, but just the direct costs for the kids are around $3,500. We applied for two different grants through the Heavenly Ski Foundaiton and the USASA Foundation that we are hopeful for (uncertain funding for each; USASA was $500-$1,000). There were also a lot of other competitions this year that were one or two night overnights, partly due to our regional series competitions being displaced due to Caldor Fire burning down Sierra at Tahoe's terrain. Thus we had additional race fees, lift tickets, equipment needs, program costs, and on and on. Lots of fun and confidence building and sportswomanship happening!

 

We're asking that you join Kellie and I in sponsoring Hailie and Laurel's pursuit of excellence in skiing and to help keep their Olympic dreams alive. We have heard that Nationals is like a mini Olympics, with an opening ceremony, parade of athletes, and big awards ceremonies.
