Hailey’s Transition Fundraiser

Hi! I’m Hailey, a 23 year old trans woman and engineer living around London.

It is vital for me to have gender affirming treatments as part of my transition. Currently there is zero chance of me getting this through the NHS for at least 6 years, more likely 8 to 10 years, with some estimates suggesting even longer. This is despite being on the waitlist for a year already and receiving shared care for HRT through my GP (something that I am already lucky and grateful for as this is rare in itself!).

Private transition costs are expensive. So far I have spent > £2000 on my transition related costs to access things such as HRT and hair removal, and this will continue. Unfortunately, as further treatment such as surgeries become available I will not be able to afford this myself. I really wish I could, or that the NHS actually made it available for me, but unfortunately this is not the case.

Absolutely anything you can give is so appreciated. I know things are not so easy for anyone at the moment which is why making this fundraiser has been quite difficult for me. I hope you can understand how important this treatment is to me, and the massive increase to my quality of live, improvement to my mental health, and to be frank increased safety in an ever-increasingly hostile world, that this will give me. Even if you can’t give anything yourself, sharing this widely with a message from yourself is a huge thing you can do to support!

If you are interested in the costs and my fundraising goal, the estimated cost of gender affirming surgery is £23,000. As a result I aim to fundraise at least £10,000 and raise the remaining funds myself through savings. If I surpass the fundraising target, any extra amount will mean I don’t need to completely drain my savings and will be more financially secure and be able to live a more financially normal life. Alternatively these extra funds may support other treatments and surgeries I may need during my transition.
