Hailey's Journey: Battling a Dual Cancer Diagnosis

I’m hoping to support the Martin family, specifically Hailey, as she navigates her new reality. Hailey is a junior from North Olmsted High School, who was in a duality program with Polaris on track to be top of her class with the dream of becoming an OBGYN. This fall, Hailey noticed a lump on the side of her neck and her mom Amanda contacted Endocrinology due to the fact that thyroid cancer runs in the family. The best possible outcome that we prayed for was for Hailey to get her thyroid removed as many women in her family had and continue her path, but she now faces a new obstacle. This past month, Hailey was not only diagnosed with thyroid cancer, but also with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma; a second cancer at sixteen. Hailey now has to navigate being a teenage girl with two cancers, numerous surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, all while having to drop out of her Polaris program and start online schooling away from her friends… and she received all of this news right before Christmas.

The Martin family has been a pillar to not only the North Olmsted community, but to the entire west side of Cleveland. Amanda has been running an incredible at-home daycare (Little LadyBugs) since 2010. She has helped numerous people raise their children with love while building their educations and their own self-confidence… and if we can do anything to help their family in any way during this horribly difficult time, I know it would be so appreciated. We don’t know what the medical expenses are going to end up to be, and Amanda will have to close daycare periodically to care for Hailey, which is a huge loss of income.
