Please help Hailey go to Harvard’s summer program

Hello! My name is Hailey Romero, and I am a current sophomore at Reno High School. I applied for the summer program at Harvard recently and was accepted.. I’m excited to say, I get to stay on Harvard’s campus for 7 weeks in the summertime to take classes and receive college credit in them! Harvard gave me a full scholarship for taking their classes but a partial scholarship for room and board fees. I still owe about $5000 for room and board, medical insurance, food, etc. While my family is working hard to support me as much as possible, unfortunately I still will need some extra help to meet the fees in time for the May 16th deadline.

Going to Harvard this summer will be an amazing opportunity for me to experience college life, learn responsibility, and most importantly, experience their education and make connections. I am an aspiring surgeon, and I am absolutely fascinated by neuroscience, which is one of the two classes I am signed up for already. I have been interested in medicine ever since my dad got colon cancer and spent weeks in a hospital, when that happened, I realized that I very much enjoyed being in hospitals which my mom found to be strange- my dad’s surgeons noticed and took my curiosity into their own hands to explain to me what was going on with him. At some point, it came to be that I understood his conditions and surgery more than he did! Luckily, he is alive and well today. He left that hospital never wanting to go back while all I wanted to do was go back. I even got a surgical suturing kit that Christmas! And now, for two summers in a row, I have participated in a webinar program hosted by Lenox Hill Neurosurgery called Brainterns which has only increased my passion for medicine. One of the professors that I will have at Harvard works with the surgical department of Massachusetts General Hospital and is a professor for Harvard Medical School as well and being taught by her would be a great opportunity for me to learn more about medicine and what I want to do. Moreover, I also will be a first-generation college student in my family, which is a very big deal to me and them.
