My name is Laura Kalinocha and I am Hailey's teacher. I want to help support Hailey and her family during this difficult time. Hailey is in Grade 2 at Ecole Forest Grove School. She is such a wonderful and very special little girl. She is very loving, caring, and kind. She is the best ever big sister to Macyn who is in Kindergarten. Hailey would always play with her at recess and walk her back to her class. She just loves school and all of the staff. She is the kind of girl who would hug you everyday three or four times if you were lucky. She would often raise her hand and say, "I was just gonna say ...I love you teacher!" I really miss her big smiles, genuine hugs, and telling me that she loves me everyday! She needs our financial help so her family can provide for her care and medical needs.
Tragically, without any warning ...something terrible happened to her just like that overnight. She was rushed into the hospital on Dec. 8 at 4:30 a.m. because she was throwing up alot and was having a siezure. Almost immediately after arriving at the hospital, she was having brain surgery. She has an AVM (something she would have been born with that no one even knew about). What is an AVM? AVM stands for Arteriovenous Malformation. An AVM is a tangle of abnormal and poorly formed blood vessels (arteries and veins). Brain AVMs are of special concern because of the damage they cause when they bleed. They are very rare and occur in less than 1% of the general population.
The next day, Hailey had another bleed and became unresponsive so she was taken in for emergency brain surgery, right now she is in an induced coma and hooked up to EEG machine. Her parents are remaining very positive and so am I that she will pull through. She is a very strong little girl with lots of courage and determination.
She will have months of recovery and physio, in about a month or 2 they will decide whether or not they will do surgery to try and remove this avm. She is currently/still paralyzed on the right side and she cannot speak. The doctor said time will tell if those functions will come back . Her parents are being told to prepare for her never being "normal" again. She most likely will not return to school for about 4-6 months.
The money raised will go immediately to the family to help with parking while at the hospital, meals, medication, physio, and help provide for the family. Both parents were working full time to make ends meet. One parent will have to stay at home to help with Hailey's medical needs which will have a huge economic impact on their family.
Please help this family in anyway that you possibly can. She truly is such a beautiful little girl who really needs our help financially so that her family can be with her to provide her strength and care at this time at her bedside where they are most needed right now!
