Dear friends and family,

On April 29th, 8 year old Hailey was playing in the woods after dinner when she was tragically struck by a falling tree branch due to high winds in our area. She was knocked unconscious, and was immediately life-flighted to The Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. She is currently in the PICU, and has had to receive two emergency surgeries for the removal of part of her skull due to brain swelling. Hailey is currently on a ventilator and is in a medically induced coma to allow for her body to rest and heal. She also is suffering from a broken femur, as well as swelling and fluid in her lungs. She may also have a spinal injury at the base of her skull, however, at this time, her doctors are focusing on combating the swelling in her brain. As of April 30th, Hailey continues to be in critical condition. The pressure is starting to come down, however, not as rapidly as Hailey’s medical staff would like. An EEG indicates that she continues to demonstrate brain activity, which is hopeful. We are asking for two things during this time. First and foremost, we ask you to keep Hailey, as well as her family, Chris, Ali, Kira, and Mia close in thought and prayer as we ask for healing for Hailey—that the doctors and medical staff would be filled with wisdom as they make decisions for Hailey and her future. We ask that you pray for peace and comfort for her family and extended family, as they navigate the days ahead. In addition, we are also asking for donations to help cover medical expenses, as well as expenses that will accrue during the Matheson’s stay in Pittsburgh as they support Hailey. Any contribution will make an incredible difference as we continue to support this amazing family during this time.
