Hi! We’re a small family of four — two loving parents, one brand-new baby, and our beloved rescue pup, Haida. Haida is a 4-year-old Husky X with a gentle soul and a spark that lights up our home. We adopted her from a rescue — we are her fourth family, and her forever home. Despite a rough start in life, Haida has been nothing but love: loyal, sweet, patient (even with a crying newborn!), and full of playful spirit. But now she’s in pain — and we’re reaching out for help.
What’s Happening to Haida?
When Haida was a puppy, she suffered a broken femur. A previous owner had surgery done to repair the break, and a metal implant was placed in her leg. Now, years later, that same implant has become infected — and it needs to be removed urgently. The infection is serious and could lead to further complications if not treated right away.
To make matters more stressful, Haida had a seizure last month. We still don’t know whether it’s related to the infection or a separate issue, but it’s added a lot of fear and urgency to her care. She’s already been through so much, and we’re worried about what might happen if this infection isn’t addressed quickly.
The Financial Reality
We were initially told that our pet insurance would cover most of the $4,800 surgery cost. But we’ve just been notified that our claim was denied — meaning we are now on the hook for the full amount. With a brand-new baby at home and me currently on maternity leave, we simply don’t have the funds to cover this on our own. Haida can’t wait — and we’re heartbroken at the thought of delaying or compromising her care because of money.
Why Haida Deserves This Chance
Haida isn’t “just a dog.” She’s family. She’s our baby’s protector, our hiking companion, our kitchen-floor nap buddy, and the reason we laugh every single day. After being passed between homes, she finally found safety, routine, and unconditional love with us. All we want is to give her the same — to show up for her the way she’s shown up for us.
❤️ How You Can Help
If you’re able to donate — even $5 — or share her story with your network, you could help save Haida’s leg, ease her pain, and give her a real chance at recovery. We’ll keep this page updated with vet visits, post-op care, and photos of her healing journey. Every dollar raised will go directly to her surgery, medication, and follow-up care. If we’re lucky enough to raise more than what’s needed, we’ll pay it forward by donating the extra to a local rescue that helps dogs like Haida get a second chance. Thank you so much for reading, caring, and being part of Haida’s story. Your support means the world to us.
With gratitude,
Marielle & Ross
