Hagan Family Support

What should have been a joyous and special occasion, has unfortunately turned into a nightmare, unimaginable by most. My little brother Zack and his wife Katelynn were overjoyed to find out that they were pregnant and bringing their second child into the world. However, throughout the pregnancy Katelynn began to have an increase in her difficulty to breath. At the beginning of June, Katelynn and Zack went to the hospital to have her checked out for a new pain she had developed in her abdomen. While having this pain evaluated, a chest X-ray was performed, and their world turned upside down. The x-ray found a large mass located directly in the middle of her chest that had already began to grow around her airway and the large blood vessels that supply blood throughout the entire body. The mass was biopsied and found to be cancerous. With this knowledge and the uncertainty of how fast the cancer would spread, the decision to perform an emergency c-section was decided. Thus, leaving Maddox being born at 33 weeks and being sent to the NICU. If that is not enough to scare everyone, the situation did not get better. During the wrap-up of the C-section, Katelynn’s condition continued to worsen to the point that she had to be placed on a ventilator and additional lifesaving equipment. This equipment aided her medical team in transferring her to a new medical facility while her newborn baby remained in the previous hospital. The new medical team worked tirelessly on treating her cancer, decreasing her mass, and giving her the ability to breath on her own again. Unfortunately, this battle was too much for her body to handle. The evening of July 15th, her condition began to deteriorate further and ultimately on July 16th surrounded by her family, Katelynn peacefully passed away. Now my brother, 26 years old, has become a widower and a single father to two young children under the age of 18 months. My heart breaks knowing that his children will never get to experience the joys that so many of us take for granted every single day. While there is nothing that I can do to bring back his wife and one true love, my hope is that you and I can assist him with funeral, medical, and everyday expenses as he learns to transition his entire life into this new and completely horrible situation. We appreciate your support and prayers during this difficult time.
