HOPE for Hope

The dictionary defines HOPE as a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen; a person or thing that may help or save someone; grounds for believing that something good may happen. For years Paul and RaeLynne hoped for another child and in 1999 their HOPES were answered with a beautiful baby girl they named Hope Marie.

Early in Hope’s childhood she was diagnosed with Severe Scoliosis. Scoliosis is a disease where your spine is either in the shape of a “c” or a “s”. The family’s HOPE was that her spine would straighten and she would find peace. In 2012 Hope began wearing a full body brace for 20 hours every day for 4 years and their hopes were once again answered, and the spine stopped moving. It is still at a 37% curve but no longer moving.

Now the family is once again calling on HOPE. One year ago, Hope suffered a broken bone in her wrist and a 3rd degree burn. At the time, it was just like any other injury but within a week the pain became unbearable. She was diagnosed with CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) which is a chronic pain condition that most often affects one limb (arm, leg, hand, leg or foot) usually after an injury. CRPS is believed to be caused by damage to, or malfunction of , the peripheral and central nervous systems. The central nervous system is composed of the brain and spinal cord; the peripheral nervous system involves nerve signaling from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. CRPS is characterized by prolonged or excessive pain and changes in skin color, temperature, and swelling in the affected area. Hope has been affected by CRPS in her legs, feet, arms, head, stomach and back which makes everyday life very hard. CRPS causes flares which can last days to months. Hope has seen 23 doctors to date and will be meeting with #24 in August with hopes that something will help.

Recently she has developed chronic stomach pain and a constant migraine. The migraine has been for the last 3 months and a few weeks ago she had 15 injections in her head to hopefully ease the pain. Doctors 22 and 23 believe she may have Lymes disease and she is full of Staph Infection. Due to everything Hope had to quit her junior year and begin taking classes online from home. With family Hope travels every week to Denver to Children’s hospital for testing and when the pain becomes too unbearable will go to Steamboat’s hospital to find some relieve.

Due to Hope’s medical bills, the financial burden has become too great to bear and due to pride and hard work they are unwilling to ask for help. As a few members of this community who love this family and want to help we are asking that you help us give them a little HOPE by helping chip away at the bills stacking against them.  We know that times are tough right now so any donations would be greatly appreciated and prayers are always welcome.
