Hadley's Heroes

Donation protected
Hi my name is Nicole (Aunt Niko).   I am the Aunt to a very special little 3½ year old named Hadley Jayne Murdock.   She loves to climb, jump, swim, play games and read books. She will make you read to her until you fall asleep!  Hadley loves her Mommy and Daddy bunches and she loves to give big hugs.

Hadley was diagnosed with Epilepsy when she was 7 months old.  She was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital ER in June of 2015 where she was diagnosed later that week.  She currently takes two medications to help control her seizures.  Hadley's seizures were mostly controlled by medication until April 2017.  Over the past 12 months Hadley's doctors have had to increase the dosage so much that they decided it’s time to run additional tests.

After an EEG and MRI Hadley headed back to CMH for a 96 hour EEG this February.  While she was in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit the Neurologist was able to capture seizure activity and determine that Hadley's Epilepsy had become drug resistant.  The Neurologist suggested that Hadley was a candidate for surgery on the affected area of her brain.

After a PETSCAN, another EEG, and an MRI, the Neurology & Epilepsy teams at CMH came to the decision that the best option for control of seizures was surgery.  Epilepsy surgery will help give her a shot at a seizure free life. It’s not a guarantee but John and Natalie will do everything in their power alongside the doctors to try to make her better.

Hadley is scheduled for a 2- part surgery this May.  On May 14th she will have electrodes placed in her brain to monitor seizure activity for four days. She will be in the PICU until her second surgery.  On Thursday the 17th, Hadley's Neurosurgeon will remove the anterior temporal lobe in hopes of gaining control of her seizures.

John and Natalie will be off work for the surgeries, and Natalie will be off work for about 4 weeks during Hadley’s recovery and rehabilitation.  Please consider donating any amount to help them financially with medical expenses and lost wages while they help their daughter recover from surgery. Being off work with only half of the income coming in can be very stressful as they take care of Hadley post-op.  If you are unable to give a monetary donation, please leave some kind words for mom and dad to read.

Thank you for reading Hadley’s story and for your contribution to “Hadley’s Heroes” and please feel free to share with others.
