The Hadley Huffman Fund for Inclusion and Equality will celebrate the outstanding efforts, passion, and enthusiasm Hadley had for human rights, diversity, and fairness. The fund aims to continue the work Hadley started as an aspiring pre-med student at Wayne State University.
Hadley was not afraid to speak up when she noticed injustice or bias of any sort. She founded a group called “Students against Medical Racism” at Wayne State University, where she was studying to become a physician. She started this organization to shed light on tough topics such as medical racism in a fun easy going way. Students Against Medical Racism aims to educate our future medical professionals on how to be more sympathetic and understanding to patients of all backgrounds without racial stereotypes. Hadley wanted to educate young medical students on how to improve their bedside manner and reduce their chances of practicing medicine with a racial bias. These skills are often lost amidst the rigors of pre-med and medical classes. She was scheduled to speak this fall at several universities in the Midwest, advocating for patients of all races, religions, and ethnicities while raising awareness about the inherent racial biases in the medical community.
Hadley’s Family asks you to consider donating to the Hadley Huffman Fund for Inclusion and Equality. The donations will jump start a foundation in her honor to celebrate Hadley’s life and the efforts she made before being taken from us far too soon. The foundation will aim to continue Hadley’s work for decades to come.
