My very dear Hadi is 22 years old and was first diagnosed with a form of cancer (acute lymphocytic leukemia) in 2017 when he was 17 years old and just few months away from starting college in Lebanon. Hadi survived his chemotherapy treatment and managed to fight for his life following multiple setbacks due to severe side effects associated with the medications. Hadi went into remission and was ready to go back to normal life and finish his computer engineering degree, when he learned the devastating news in Nov 2021 that he had relapsed and needed to be put on cancer treatment again followed by bone marrow transplant. Hadi completed his BMT, but due to post-operative complications including severe graft versus host disease (where certain type of donated cells attacked his own cells) in major organs, as well as series of life-threatening infections (CMV, EBV and BK), doctors prescribed expensive medications and requested that he stays hospitalized due to his critical condition, which is still ongoing. Hadi lives in Lebanon, a country suffering from a dire economic crisis where the local currency has dropped by more than 95% of its value and basic medications are not available locally. His father, a Math teacher, is now unable to cover the huge medical expenses. Hospital bills (in US dollars) are way beyond the capacity of his family income. Hadi’s father, who dedicated almost 25 years of his life teaching Math to high school students, is now spending his time watching after his son who is under intensive treatment, and trying to secure his medications which he has to obtain from countries across the globe due to lack of availability in Lebanon. For those who know Hadi personally, it is widely known that he is an extraordinary human being, intelligent and with high ambitions. He is a loving and an extremely strong young man who has been bravely fighting this devastating disease for almost 6 years now, and who remains hopeful that he will win this battle at the end as long as appropriate treatment options are offered to him. Hadi is now still hospitalized due to the above mentioned complications with a mounting bill of approximately $73,000, so we are asking those who are able to help him cover part of this cost in any way they can,so he can continue his treatment.
