8.14 Update - you all are so incredible and I'm so humbled by your donations. I really can't express my appreciation or thanks enough. Your support, love, prayers, and kind words (and money!) mean so much to us. It's a pretty incredible thing to be a part of and I am so thankful for you all. I've updated the goal to try to get to $15,000 by September 30th - race day - I know we can get there! Thank you for any sharing of our story and efforts to raise money for two great causes. Make no mistake you all will have a hand in defeating these two awful things. God Bless.
Hi all! I am excited (and nervous) to announce that in 2 months, I'm going to be competing in the Chattanooga, TN Ironman race on September 30th, 2018. That's less than 60 days away. I will be swimming 2.4 , riding 116 (because the standard 112 mile route was too easy) and running 26.2 miles with a bunch of other crazy people!
This race will be extremely personal to me. I am choosing to swim, bike, and run because my son, Stetson, never will get to and because his older brother, Sawyer, has already completed his Ironman by beating Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). My kids (including you Heidi!) are my force and the Iron behind the Man. Outside of just finishing the race - I've also set a personal goal to raise $10,000 to go towards further research of SIDS and of RMS. AJ and I will match up to $2,000!
August 24th, 2016 was the worst day of my life - our son, Stetson, was stolen from us by a silent, unknown, thief in the night - SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.) We followed all the rules. We made sure to do all the right things. It just wasn't enough.
SIDS by definition is "the sudden death of an infant under one year of age which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history”. SIDS is the number one cause of death for babies between 1 month and one year.
Science doesn't know what happened to my son and the other 4,000 annually like him. We're hoping to contribute to finding the cause and helping protect other infants and families from similar tragedy.
My other cause is fighting Pediatric Cancer. Just 10 weeks after Stetson's death, we received the horrible news that Sawyer was diagnosed with Stage 3, RMS and after spending the next 294 days in chemotherapy, proton radiation therapy, and battling every single day we were thrilled to hear doctor's tell us he showed "no signs of cancer." His experience and battle opened our eyes to a world we didn't know existed. Seeing kids, like Sawyer, fight and battle Cancer was incredible and I want to help - however I can.
Each year, over 15,000 kids are diagnosed with Pediatric Cancer. 1 in 285 kids will be diagnosed. Since 1980 - there have only been 6 new cancer drugs developed specifically for Pediatric Cancer. Most importantly, Cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease among children. We want more kids ringing the bell like Sawyer.

Both of these causes are near to our hearts and both deserve and need more attention! We will be splitting the donations between the American Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Institute and the L3 Foundation . We sincerely appreciate any support you may be able to offer! I'll take words of encouragement too - Lord knows, I'll need them!
