Help me stay in college
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
My name is Fadhillah and I am currently taking my MsC in Occupational Therapy in Oxford (Brookes). I am currently in my final year of the 2-year course.
I find myself on this platform as a final cry for help as my father who is the main financial sponsor for my school fees is no longer able to do so. He is chronically ill with medical problems related to diabetes complicated by nephropathy and the need for 3x weekly dialysis treatment for end stage renal failure. He also suffers from hypertension, ischaemic heart disease (to which he has undergone 2 open heart bypasses) and kidney cancer (underwent kidney removal). Despite all this, my father has been a strong driving force in my life, always pushing me to be the high achiever I am today. However, his team of doctors recently gave my family news that there is nothing that can be medically done to help him anymore and for us to be prepared for the inevitable. This news comes after several months of positive changes to his health.
On the other hand, the stress and pressure of financing the household needs whilst being the main carer for my dad has unfortunately taken its toll on my mother's health, which we are seeking medical assessment for as this currently remains ambiguous. Bearing this in mind, in order to diminish any financial burden on my mum should anything befall my father, his personal savings are prioritized towards payment of our family house. I would not have this any other way either.
He managed to fund my 1st year of studies with his savings, but my current outstanding fee is £14,500. This payment was due on the 12th of September and I am requesting an extension which is subject to approval. My payment is now overdue. Hence, this payment needs to be made as soon as possible in order for me to stay on course. Currently, my use of some school resources have already been suspended.
I have put much consideration into returning to Singapore to be with my family but my parents strongly opposes this, especially my father. I feel bounded to fulfil my father's wish for me to finish my course and achieve great things from it.
As an international student, my loan options are very limited and so I am currently looking into private loans, but the extremely high interest rates leave me hesitant. Unfortunately, this might highly likely be my only option besides crowd funding.
Since living in London, I have been financing all my personal needs (rent, food, transport, textbooks, extra travel fees for clinical placement, etc) independently. When I am not at school or on clinical placement (unpaid), I work part-time as a waitress over the weekend and I work full-time during my school holidays. During the extra hours after school, I give behaviour therapy sessions to a boy with Autism.
My parents' current turbulent state has been crippling for me being so far away from home but I am determined to fulfil my father’s wishes. Completing this course is vital to me as it would allow me to use my qualification to work in a paediatric unit to help young children with developmental issues gain a better quality of life and a more promising future. Furthermore, my earnings would allow me to provide more to support my family. Like many of you, my ability to do this is of utmost importance to me. I have successfuly completed my first year and continue to work hard despite my personal struggles.
Failure is not an option for me.
So here I am, humbly looking for a helping hand to stay in college. But more importantly for me is to make my father’s wish a reality. However my circumstances does not allow me to accomplish this on my own. I would humbly accept even the smallest donations as even £1 makes a difference and I sincerely extend my utmost gratitude for your generosity and care.
Thanks for taking the time to read and contribute to my campaign. I wish you all beautiful, blessed days ahead.
Sincerely,
Fadhillah (Jaan)
