Helping my hero.........my dad

Donation protected
Hi everyone........I wanted to share the story of my hero......who also happens to be my Dad. My dad is 71 and has alheimers. His name is Mike and he has been married to my mom for 48yrs. Michael was always been a very hard working man. He always provided for his family and at times he had to work 2 jobs to do it. He was also a coach for all of my brothers sports teams while he was growing up. He reminds me a lot of George Carlin........same personality and hes about as funny as George used to be. A few years back he had to retire due to having a heart attack - he actually drove and hour and a half to and from work while having a heart attack.......i thought we would lose him but we have been blessed and he is still w/ us. A few years ago dad got diagnosed w/ alzheimers......he was 69yrs old. We had to wait until he was 70 to actually get him in w/ an alzheimers doctor. I guess they dont believe people under 70 get it. I, of course, find that crazy.......you have Alzheimer's but you have to wait a year to see the right doctor.............really??

I'm trying to raise some money for my mom and my dad due to his rising medical costs. It has been really hard on the whole family but particularly my mother. She is his caretaker and never gets a break from the craziness. Recently my parents received word that my dads medications will be increasing and that they cannot get any home health aide help unless they get my dad on Mass Health.  According to Mass Health they are not eligible. With the rising costs of my dads medication ( he takes 15 a day )  and the fact that he also has diabetes and suffered a heart attack a few years back im just trying to get some help into their home to help. My mom really can't get anything done because she is contastantly having to stop what she is doing to check on him. This happens so much during the day that my mom really can't get anything done. It's not like she is the best of health either. She has had 5 spinal surgeries, neck surgery, shoulder surgery and weighs about 95 pounds soaking wet. She herself almost died 5yrs ago to double pnemonia and she is always in constant pain.I try to go down and help as often as i can and so does my brother but that is not enough. They need more help.

My mom would probably shoot me if she knew I was doing this because she is not one to look for handouts but i just wanted to try to get them some medical help that they truly need.

My dad had an appt last week w/ his Dr. and it was really shocking to see how much he has forgotten in 3 months. He gets angry, irritable and paranoid.  My mom could really use some help in the house w/ him. Maybe get an hour or two to get some things done that she needs to do for her or the house.

If you know my dad you know that he is a great guy and a really funny guy. He is still funny - only now he really has no filter which can be dangerous.....lol.

I don't know if anyone will help but I felt I needed to try to get them some help since Im broke myself and cannot afford to help them w/ this financially. Emotionally I try to be there 100% for my mom........and my dad but as anybody who has dealt w/ this knows......its really harder on the care giver than the person w/ this illness.......he thinks he's right as rain.

This disease is really terrible. I was in tears all week witnessing the deterioration of my dad last week at this appt. I see him weekly but i don't always get to see him in action. It was heartbreaking.

If you can find it in your heart to please help my mom and dad w/ the rising costs of his care it would be greatly appreciated. I would do just about anything to help my parents in their current situation or any situation for that matter. They are great people and they really don't need to be worrying about how they can afford dads care w/ everything else that is happening.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and if you can't help financially then any and all prayers are welcome.

Thank you,
