Another future ruined by war, you can make the change

I’m writing this on behalf of someone incredibly close to my heart — a friend I’ve known for over 7 years, who is now facing one of the darkest chapters of his life.
My friend X came to the UK full of hope and determination. His dream was simple but powerful: to become a mechanical engineer so he could help rebuild our beloved Sudan and give back to the world. He worked hard, got into the University of Nottingham and was doing everything right.
Then, everything changed.
In 2023, war broke out in Sudan. Overnight, his entire family lost their livelihoods. The foundation that supported his education collapsed. With no way to pay his tuition, X was forced to pause his studies. In 2024, the university officially withdrew him from his course.
What made it even harder was that he had just been offered an internship — one that could have easily led to a graduate scheme with a company willing to sponsor international students. It was the kind of opportunity most students dream of. But because of his sudden withdrawal and financial instability, they had to choose someone who was ready to start immediately. That chance was taken away from him.
Since then, he’s been fighting tirelessly to find a way back — pleading with the university, applying for help, and exploring every possible option. But nothing has worked.
The university won’t allow him to return unless he pays the outstanding tuition fees from his first semester. And despite working a part-time job, he barely earns enough to cover his basic needs — let alone clear a debt of this size.
Right now, he’s staying with us because he simply cannot afford to rent his own place. But we’ve already graduated, and we’re leaving soon — so his housing situation is becoming urgent. We have to find a solution now, before he’s left with nowhere to go.
Out of options, and holding on to hope, he’s applied for asylum — not because he wanted to, but because he had no choice. It’s a step taken in desperation, but also in hope: hope that this nightmare might finally come to an end.
He’s reached out to organisations. He’s asked for help. He’s exhausted every avenue. This GoFundMe is his last hope — a chance to get back on track and complete his education. Not just for himself, but for the dream he’s carried with him since the beginning: to help rebuild Sudan, to give back, and to make a meaningful contribution to the world.
If you’ve read this far, thank you. Please know that even the smallest donation can change the course of his life. He’s not just another student — he’s someone with deep resilience, an unbreakable spirit, and a heart full of dreams.
Let’s not let war steal another future.
Thank you for your kindness.
