Tyler Scott Wohlers Memorial Walking Path

Donation protected
The July 4th celebration of 2019 started out exactly how we all enjoy. Smiling and laughing with friends and family in our favorite setting on Ottertail Lake. The early morning of July 6, 2019, Tyler Wohlers was taken from us way too soon. As he was struck and killed by a car along Highway 78, in Minnesota between Battle Lake and Ottertail City while walking home after a night with friends.

No parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt/uncle, friend, teammate, etc. should have to experience such a tragedy. Tyler was a light to all he came into contact with due to his kind demeaner and contagious smile. He was a loving child, grandchild, and nephew. A proud and caring older brother. A funny, supportive, and honest friend. Tyler knew the true meaning of friendship and anyone who had the chance to be his friend is forever impacted. We were all so lucky to have such a light in our lives.

Many questions have gone through our heads. How? Why him? Why us? And lastly. What can WE do to prevent another tragedy? This is how the Wohlers Walkway came to be. Our hope is to give Ottertail a safe walking path that everyone can enjoy. The project will be along Highway 78 on the west side from the intersection near First National Bank to Pelican Bay Public Water Access on Ottertail Lake. This trail has been approved by the City of Ottertail and DOT.

The walkway is being coordinated in conjunction with the Ottertail City Council.  The City Council will be directing the construction and will be billing our team for our portion of the project.  The funds from our campaign will go toward the total cost of phase 3 of the project.

The total cost of the pathway project was estimated by DOT to cost around $210,000.  The City of Ottertail is coordinating the funds for the entire project except for the amount that we are trying to raise with the GoFundme campaign.

An account has been set up at Bremer bank under Connor Tschakert and Wyatt Ricks for the GoFundMe page. All funds from the campaign will be deposited into this account and will go towards the project. When bills are received from the Ottertail city council funds will be transferred to them via check from the Bremer account.

Ottertail is a great location for travelers, vacationers, and those who call it “home”. We hope to have your support to build this trail in his name. Our goal is $75,000. We need your help to make this happen and we can’t do it without you.
