Remembering Brittany

It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic and unexpected passing of our dear friend, Brittany Newton-Miller. The pain of Brittany's passing is felt by many, as we mourn a beautiful life taken too suddenly and too young.

On Saturday, January 14, she was hospitalized with a high white blood cell count and suspected acute myeloid leukemia. Her condition progressed rapidly. After being put into a medically induced deep sleep and being intubated, Brittany suffered several brain bleeds. On Wednesday, January 18, the doctors performed some functionality tests that determined there was no longer brain activity. She passed away that afternoon.

Describing Brittany is not an easy task. While so many words come to mind when thinking of her -- vivacious, bubbly, performer, loving, compassionate, genuine -- none of them feel like enough. Brittany was a young, passionate, and vibrant person; she had a beautiful light that drew people to her and spread so much happiness through her love of dance. She added immeasurable spirit, camaraderie, and joy to every community she joined, including her beloved Bollywood and Wish Heart dance families. As a member and impassioned advocate of the LGBTQIA+ community, her support for equality, rights, and respect for queer communities was intersectional, loud, and proud. It was truly a gift to know her and call her a friend.

The greatest loves of Brittany's life were her family and her husband, Elliot. Brittany was the only child of Debbie and Toney Newton. She loved and celebrated her parents with unyielding affection and warmth. Brittany found a soul mate in Elliot, as anyone who was lucky enough to know them together could see from a mile away. Their love grew from a friendship that blossomed from undeniable chemistry, laughter, and respect for each other. They celebrated their love with the wedding of their dreams this past October 30th and traveled to France and Greece on their honeymoon. It seemed whether they were traveling abroad or out at their favorite local margarita spot, every day spent together was an adventure for them.

Donations will go towards covering funeral and medical expenses. Excess funds will be used to support family travel and accommodations, additional living expenses for Elliot, and one of Brittany’s favorite charities - The Trevor Project.
