Food Costs
Update Jan 11, 2023: We've been cut even more because of the SSI COLA increase.
This is solely for food costs. We had food stamps, but since I now get paid for 20 hours a MONTH for taking care of my partner Tom who has Parkinsons' Disease, the income changed that because they add mine to his SSI disability amount when setting the amount. Also, as you know, prices for food keep going up, along with everything else.
Yes, we go to food banks and that helps, but I have special diet needs because of extremely high blood pressure and kidney problems (low salt foods, fresh fruits and vegetables). Usually, those are hard to find at food banks. My goal of $3,000 is for the year ($250 a month for food for both of us.)
Here is some background on us: Tom worked for 45 years. He had Parkinson's symptoms since about 2012, when I met him (he probably had them before then). However, he ignored them in order to work, until he was laid off during the Covid pandemic in 2020. He was officially diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2022. I have worked since age 15 and was laid off in 2009, and I became ill shortly after but kept pushing myself to make money for a few years by writing. I now take care of Tom.
Thank you!
