Hi, My name is June; I am putting this gofundme together for my dear friend Kerri. At the end of January, she fell off a balcony on the hotel's third story while in Mexico. The past weeks have been an unbelievable chain of events. So I asked her to write a little something that you can read below.
As we all so affectionately call her, Boston (where she is from) is pure light and energy. She has never met a stranger, and you are lucky enough to call her friend; it's a true gift. Kerri would do anything for anyone, which is why I am putting this page together for her. She did not want to ask for help, as she was the one who stepped up to help others - but she needs our help now.
Below you will see some photos...they are tough to look at, but they show the true scope of the damage and what she is dealing with.
We also understand that times are very tuff for some people, so please, we accept every prayer you can send her direction to! Everything that anyone can do will help her on the journey she has ahead; her road to recovery and getting back to work will be a very long one.
We appreciate all the donations, thoughts, and prayers; it means a lot to Kerri and her family!
A note from Kerri~
As much as it goes against everything in my personality and soul to ask for help, unfortunately, I am left with no alternative. I am the person that gives; never have I been in the position to be the one asking, but my situation has left me no choice. So today, I am asking for help via this gofundme.
A brief synopsis of my story, where I am currently at, and why I am asking for help....
After getting injured an hour and a half into my dream vacation by breaking both my femurs, these past four weeks have been a very long, painful road and just the beginning of my healing journey.
In Cancun, I underwent extensive cleaning operations on both legs along with three blood transfusions due to internal bleeding. 6 days later, I was finally stable enough to be air flighted to Houston Memorial Hermann Trauma hospital.
Here doctors began the journey to get me stable and repair my legs. Unfortunately, my body started to now fight an invisible infection. During my 2nd surgery, they discovered a very dangerous Multi-Drug Resistant Organism infection in both my legs. Doctors began the process to clean my wounds. The left leg was swept and stable, but the right was far more infected, and quite a battle to get infection-free.
As of today, after undergoing nine surgeries and eight blood transfusions, the rod and screws are now installed on both my legs. I have begun my physical and occupational therapy to build my strength and prepare for the final surgeries.
I have made strides on my left side. However, my right side continues to become more and more painful each day. Unfortunately, a CT Scan and ultrasound discovered a mass of fluid in my right leg at the bottom of my femur under my knee. My team is determining if another surgery is needed to remove the liquid or a better course of treatment to correct; it before they release me to fly home to California for my six weeks of PT.
The big picture goal is mid-February I will be air flighted back to California to continue my physical therapy for six weeks; then, at the end of March, I will come back to Houston for the last phase. At that time, Dr will be installing the final plates to hold my bones together, all additional screws and rods. This last phase is vital to get my legs stable to provide strength and stability; so that eventually I will be able to walk again, which is, of course, the end plan.
The bottom line is that I will need at least 3-4 additional surgeries and ALOT of PT/OT before walking again. I am blessed to be on short-term disability through my company. However, the reality is that we need money for my medical bills as my insurance only covers so much.
I know it is a lot to ask; I'm humbled beyond anything I could have ever imagined, even having to ask. But, I want to embrace the second chance I have been given and get back on my feet as quickly as possible. I promise to continue to help others any way I can, as I always will have gratitude for the help I received.
If you know me, please know I would give my heart to anyone who needs it, along with the shirt off my back. As much as I hate to ask, see that I have to, and there is no shame in it. I promise to pay forward for the rest of my life.
