Brandon Pruett's Medical Fund

22 month year old Brandon is a beautiful, sweet, blue eyed boy that was diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis due to a staph infection and Cerebral Palsy (meaning one time brain injury) just 3 months after he was born.   This is his story: On January 31st, 2013 Brandon was born 9 weeks early at 4lbs 6oz  and only needed oxygen for 6 weeks. Brandon amazingly learned how to drink from the bottle and breast feed which most preemies don’t do. Three months later the Pruett’s were able to take 6lb Brandon home.  10 days later Brandon began having severe diarrhea so he was taken to Urgent care. The next day the doctor at Torrance Memorial Hospital performed a Spinal tap and told the Pruett’s that Brandon had Bacterial Meningitis. Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges, the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord and is extremely serious illness that requires immediate medical care. If not treated quickly, it can lead to death within hours or lead to permanent damage to the brain and other parts of the body. He was then transferred to Miller Children’s & Women Hospital in Long Beach where they were better equipped to handle his condition. The CT scan showed Brandon had an abscess in his brain and that he needed to have brain surgery. 3 month old Brandon had his 1st of many brain surgeries the next day and was kept on a breathing machine for a week fighting for his life. The family spent the next 10 weeks at the hospital because the abscess ruptured and caused him to have hydrocephalus. He has gone through 13 brain surgeries because of revisions on his shunts that he will have in his brain forever.  He is and has been taken care of by many wonderful doctors and the best nurses! On September 30th, 2014, Brandon had his first seizer which the Pruett’s thought wouldn’t happen since he has gone 20 months without any. Once again he was hospitalized for a few days and will now be on seizer medication indefinitely. He goes to physical therapy, occupational therapy, visual stimulation classes and he also goes to a head start school for early intervention. His 12 year old brother Ryan and 16 year old sister Danielle fight over Brandon and you can see how much they love him and how much he loves them. He is a wonderful baby that everyone loves. And you can’t help fall in love with his sweet personality and baby blues!
