Help with my mom's hospital bills

Friends and Family,

We are raising money to cover my mom's hospital bills. Though her journey is far from over, she has been in the ICU for 3 weeks now, with more to come. What we know so far is that the amount we will be expected to pay out of pocket (maximum) will be around $3,500. Therefore, we are attempting to raise $5,000, to account for other at-home care expenses. At this point, there is irreversible damage to her lungs, and at-home care would require oxygen tanks, etc. (we don't yet know all that at-home care will entail, just that if she makes it through this, it won't be easy).

Asking for money at this point, when we still don't know what will happen, feels pre-emptive... and selfish. As my dad has said, "I haven't brought it up yet, because I can't put a price tag on your mom's life."
