I have known Martin for over 5 years.  He is one of the most accomplished people I know.  A former homeless person with such life highlights:

- Born and raised in DC
- Owned and operated a few businesses in 80's and 90's
- Became homeless in 2000 due to a series of unfortunate events.  He owned 4 houses before that.
- 40 years sober, recovering alcoholic
- Had 3 heart attacks and 7 related surgeries while homeless on the streets of DC.  Over 30 years of chronic nerve pain.
- His entire belongings which included family history, media library, merchandise and fixtures, and all his personal clothing disappeared after they emptied his storage unit by "mistake".

- Community Action Participant since the 70's
- Community organizer
- Library advocate
- Administered homeless shelters and transitional programs
- Renowned for resilience and positive thinking

                                                                                                                                Sought after public speaker

- Accomplished photographer

The only homeless person with an article exhibited at the Smithsonian Newseum (an interview with Al Franklin)

Joint interview with the late John Lewis received notoriety

- His photography displayed at DC City Council

Martin used to make money before the pandemic by public speaking about the issue of homelessness.  He hasn't earned any money for 5 months.  We are trying to raise money for two reasons:

1 - His daughter's 18th birthday is in September.  He needs money for her school and to buy an appropriate present for her.

2 - He would like to visit his granddaughter, who lives in San Diego, for the first time.  Martin is very Covid conservative, so he will not travel until it's safe.
