I am Kevin, writing on behalf of the Dayoan family. EJ has been my best friend for a while. We’ve built many memories, a strong best friend relationship, and a strong bond between each others families. He’s always been compassionate and honest to his family and god, but after this whole accident, I and many other had no one to turn to because he was our go to person when we needed to vent or express our emotions. Sadly his accident effected me as much as it effected his family, but it also effected many friends of his and now its his turn for us to listen to him.

On July 31, 2020, the family of EJ’s lives changed. EJ was hit by a SUV on his way to work. He suffered multiple injuries which included 2 head contusions, brain hematoma, multiple facial fractures, tongue laceration, right forearm fractures, 5-6 rib fractures, liver laceration and a spinal injury. He was intubated to protect his airway.

Despite all the injuries he sustained, he was awake and alert. He was able to communicate by writing and through basic ASL. EJ knew what month, day and day of the week it was. He was so thirsty, he started listing all the drinks he wanted: jamba juice, arizona ice tea, water, triple xxx vitamin water. We were very happy with the progress he was making and was hoping he would be able to recover fast.

On the night of August 3, EJ was taken to get a MRI of his spine. When he was on the MRI table, EJ was getting agitated. He was given a dose of sedation to help him calm down, which helped a little but he was still agitated causing his oxygen level to go down. They decided to abort the MRI and when they did, he went into cardiac arrest. They performed CPR and was able to revive him.

Since that night, EJ has not been himself. Hes not responding to commands, and is constantly rigid. Involuntary muscle contractions, constant sweating, and brain storming. The doctors came to a conclusion not to long ago and he had suffered an anoxic brain injury when he was going for his MRI. This means his brain did not get enough oxygen.

He will eventually be transferred to a rehab facility to start his therapy. We are hopeful that this will be the beginning of some sort of recovery. We all know that recovery from a brain injury requires a miracle, and we are hopeful for some kind of recovery.

As we all know EJ has always been the kuya (older brother) for everyone. He was always the family oriented individual and has always put them first before himself. His family and many of his friends are very strong believers that god has his plans for EJ. He has currently left many friends, and family on limp mode but mostly his family of three. His wife and his soon to be 1 year old baby boy are the ones most effected. We hope that one day, EJ will continue his life journey and witness all the life milestones he’s ever dreamed of.

Im not here to ask, and nor am i here to beg. Whatever you may be able to contribute towards his family is greatly appreciated. We know these times right now with COVID is a struggle, but the most we ask for is your prayers in gods name. We hope you all are safe, and we thank each and everyone of you for having the time in reading this and your kind generous hearts! May god bless you all with happiness and good health.
