Please Help Jessica with Medical Expenses

Hello, my name is Sherri and I set up this fundraiser to help my niece, Jessica Chavez. Jessica was recently diagnosed with tongue cancer. While waiting for surgery, the pain became so intense that she had to go on medical disability earlier than anticipated. She is recovering from surgery now, but there have been a few setbacks and she remains on disability for an unknown duration.

Her disability income is only 60% of her regular income and her husband also had to take extra time off from his work to help with her care. The household bills continue as usual, regardless of income, and now she has accumulated a large amount of out-of-pocket medical expenses as well. Many of the expenses are not covered by insurance, such as supplies and food for her feeding tube, travel expenses, medication, etc.

Jessica loves her work and will get back to work as soon as she is able (probably sooner than she should, knowing her). But for now, she could really use some help to keep up with the household bills, and pay the excess medical bills and uncovered expenses.

UPDATE: January 2024

Hi Friends of Jessica. It’s been a while since I posted an update and I wanted to let you all know how things are going.

Jessica has almost completely recovered from her surgeries. However, she hasn’t been able to go back to work yet because she also had to undergo a full round of Radiation Therapy. She completed Radiation and “Rang the Bell” on December 11th, 2023. HOORAY!

Jessica has traveled a long and challenging road, but thankfully she is now “Cancer-Free” and recovering nicely from the Radiation. She is hopeful that she can return to work very soon.
