Help for Paul

Dear friends,

My brother-in-law Paul is a devoted father of two beautiful daughters, a beloved husband and an amazing friend who has never hesitated to help others in need.

Paul’s world was recently turned upside down, as he went from the friend and family member that never hesitated to put others needs before his own to now finding himself in need of help from others.

On Sunday December 1, 2019 Paul collapsed and had a seizure at his residence. He was rushed to Sewickley Valley Hospital and ultimately transferred to Allegheny General Hospital where he was found to have a cancerous brain tumor.

On December 4, 2019 he underwent a lengthy procedure to have the tumor removed. Upon awakening from his surgery, Paul was devastated to find that he was paralyzed on his left side.

His doctors were hopeful that he would regain full mobility and eventually transferred him to West Penn Hospital for aggressive Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, Psychological counseling, Vocational counseling and Cognitive therapy.

It was heart breaking for the many friends and family that would visit, support and encourage Paul as he learned to do the daily tasks that we all take for granted. As he learned to dress himself, brush his teeth, comb his hair, bathe and walk again.

He was ultimately released from West Penn Hospital on January 4, 2020 and returned home, where he would continue his long journey to full recovery by receiving in home care.

Paul was determined to be fully recovered by April 2020 and was making incredible progress towards his goal of returning to work to provide for his family and most importantly, walking unassisted.

Paul’s job doesn’t necessarily require him to walk unassisted, but walking his oldest daughter down the aisle in April does.

After many weeks of therapy Paul was walking significantly better and mostly unassisted, but still had significant weakness on his left side and limited mobility with his left hand.

Paul was not deterred and continued to work and began to rapidly improve. He and Lisa soon became regulars walking at the Beaver Valley Mall and eventually their neighborhood on warm days.

On January 14, 2020 in the late evening hours Paul received a call from his doctor informing him that he had blood clots in both legs and both lungs. He was rushed to AGH and admitted to receive treatment. After approximately a week he was released and continued his treatments at home.

Unfortunately his setbacks did not stop there as it was discovered that he possibly had an infection that would require his surgeons to reopen his incision.

On February 24, 2020 Paul underwent an outpatient procedure to insert a filter to keep the blood clots from traveling to his heart or lungs.  During this procedure he went into AFIB and was required to stay in the hospital until his February 26, 2020 surgery.

On February 26, 2020 surgeons opened Paul’s incision where they discovered an infection that required the removal of a potion of his skull.

Paul will continue to fight for a full recovery, but cannot do this alone. Our family has seen firsthand how mentally and physically devastating this situation has been not only to Paul, but to his wife, daughters, family and friends who care so much.

As Paul continues to receive only a fraction of his monthly income we have decided to create this go fund me page to hopefully prevent this from becoming financially devastating as well.

Paul has a long road ahead of him, including future chemo and radiation treatments.

Your generous donations will not only go to help offset Paul’s lost wages, but his wife’s as well as she is forced to miss work to accommodate Paul’s many appointments. In addition these donations will help with mounting medical bills and afford them the ability to get Paul the care he so desperately needs and deserves.

Getting through this critical care period and the subsequent therapy for him is going take a severe financial toll. This fund is to assist his family through this period for short term recovery and long-term rehabilitation medical needs.

My family and I thank you for your support, for your prayers and for your blessings.

Please take the time to share this page with family members and friends via Social Media and email.
