COVID-19 Artist Relief Fund

Hi my name is Sergio in the photo is my husband David, we’ve been together for 20 years. I was detained by ICE for almost 14 months, it was the most difficult thing that I have to endure during my life. Because of that, we have to pay lawyers and we used all of our savings. I was released from detention on March 2019. I am a visual artist, I got a teaching artist position at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, I used to teach there before I was detained by ICE. I also got a job as an assistant sculptor for a good  friend of mine. We were finally back on track to being financially stable, then the Covid-19 virus came along. Both my husband’s job as a catering waiter and my assistant artist job are on hold until further notice. Both of us r independent contractors and it appears that w may not be eligible for unemployment benefits.

The reason I’m asking for your help is because after over 4 years of legal battles, I am still not a U.S. Citizen, nor do I have a green card. This not only disqualifies ME from receiving  benefits from the new government stimulus plan, but also disqualifies MY HUSBAND, who is a U.S. born citizen. I am planning to teach my drawing class, but that will not come close to covering our bare necessities.
I suffer from PTSD and this situation makes it worse. I don’t know how are we going to pay our rent, or have food until all this situation with the virus goes away. Any help you can generous give will go long ways for me and my husband. Thank you.
