Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Sgt. John Vail enlisted in the Army in 2006. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sgt. Vail was serving on patrol as an Army Corporal in Kuwait on March 7, 2012 when the Humvee he was riding in rolled over, ejecting him and then landing on top of him. The incident resulted in a spinal cord injury and paralysis from the waist down.
Following the accident Sgt. Vail was flown to Lanstuhl, Germany where he had spinal cord surgery and then transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio where he spent almost two months. Eventually, he was transferred to the James Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida for treatment of his spinal cord injuries and rehabilitative therapies.
After being transferred to Tampa, Florida to complete his rehabilitation, Sgt. Vail made the city temporary home while working toward his goal to be able to become self-sufficient enough to be able to perform day-to-day self-care and chores to allow him to live like a “normal” person once again so that he could permanently return to his home town in Mississippi where he can be near his son.
His dream is finally becoming a reality as Sgt. Vail recently broke ground on his fully handicap accessible home in Mississippi where he will be able to fully care for himself and his new home. He will finally be able to enjoy simple tasks like cooking for himself, doing his own laundry, showering and being able to get around his own home in his wheelchair with comfort and ease.
However, daily therapy is still a struggle for Sgt. Vail. He has shown the most success with rehabilitation in the Tampa rehabilitation center’s handicapped heated therapy pool. This type of therapy helps greatly with Sgt. Vail’s circulation and pain control.
The friends and family of Sgt. Vail would love nothing more than to make this amazing daily therapy option available to him in his own home by having a heated therapy pool installed in his fully handicapped accessible home where he will have easy access to this therapy as often as needed. However, the cost is $27,000.00. Please help us reach this goal!
Sgt. Vail has served our great Country protecting the freedom of my family and all of yours. Help us give back and help him find the relief and happiness he deserves for all that he has endured. Help us, help provide him with the “normal” life, he lost while allowing us all to enjoy ours.
Thank you so much for your support! God Bless!!!
