Help Justin Cockerham and Family

Donation protected
This is a fundraiser for wonderful people and dear friends, the McDowell-Cockerhams. If you’re part of the South Durham Little League family, you have likely seen their friendly faces on the sidelines cheering on their extremely kind and talented son, Noah McDowell. Or, you might have traveled with them with the Orange County Crushers. Most recently, you may have watched Noah play baseball on TV with the SDLL 12u All Stars in the Southeast Regionals!

If you don’t know Shannon, Justin, Noah, or their younger children Lyra, Sebastian, and their little firecracker, Fenyx, I hope you will be fortunate enough to spend time with them one day. Suffice it to say, they are the type of people who would give you the shirts off their backs. They will always bring a positive attitude and a GREAT soundtrack to game day. Shannon is a ray of sunshine who always makes people laugh and is a total joy to be around. Justin is very much the same. He is thoughtful, generous, kind, fun, and incredibly supportive of his friends and family. He too is always ready with a big smile, not to mention great style!

On Monday, Justin entered the critical care unit of UNC Hillsborough Hospital with dangerously high blood pressure associated with chronic kidney disease. Since then, they have discovered that Justin’s body is not retaining potassium. He needs to receive a kidney biopsy ASAP, but they are unable to do that due to his continued high blood pressure. What all of this means is that Justin and his family are facing a great deal of uncertainty about his outcome. Most likely, he will face a future of dialysis and kidney issues. As of right now, they are unsure of when Justin will be released.

Justin and Shannon run an in-home daycare. Due to Justin’s health struggles, they have had to put their business on pause which has caused them to lose many clients. Currently, they have no income and Shannon is doing her best to support her family while also facing mounting medical bills due to their lack of health insurance.

As you can imagine, this would be a very difficult time for any family. Owning a small family business that cannot run without Justin and Shannon has made things even more difficult and scary. On top of that, Shannon is spending most of her time in the hospital and is having to be away from her children a lot, which is also very difficult for all of them.

We set this up to ask for your help in supporting the McDowell-Cockerhams during this very uncertain and stressful time, and to help reduce the tremendous financial burden they will face due to Justin’s health struggles. It is very hard for a family to ask for help, but we are part of a community that we know doesn’t want to see them suffer or feel shame for needing support. They will be incredibly grateful for your help and your gift will come back to you tenfold when you get to once again have a blast with them all on the sidelines as they cheer for Noah.

Please keep them in your positive thoughts and prayers. If you can help financially as well, we thank you! Every little bit helps a lot.
