Jill’s Journey

Donation protected

Hello all! I am Sianna (Lucky enough to be Jill’s sister in law). I have created this go fund me to help assist Jill with any and all expenses as they relate to her journey to wellness. Below is a post from Jill about how she got to her diagnosis.

as of June 2021, Jill is expected to undergo a bone marrow transplant very soon. This will include a lengthy stay in Tampa and then multiple trips back and forth of follow up after. As you can imagine, the next year is going to be busy and costly for her. Anything you can do to donate will not go under appreciated.

How did I get here?

As many of you know for the last 20+ years I have had Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura ( ITP) = low platelet count. The average count for most people is between 150k-450k. When I was diagnosed my counts were about 100k, they held pretty consistently between 75-100k, that is until about 2010 when they began to drop.... fast forward to 2020 and they average between 15 and 30k. Today they were 16k. ‍♀️

I have been under the care of a great hematologist ( Dr. K) who has been monitoring my counts regularly. February 2020, I got really sick pretty much the flu..( looking back it may have been covid, but who knows). It took me a long time to recover - I was admitted to the hospital on March 13 ( the day Florida shut down) with a hemoglobin level.of 4.2 ‍♀️ a couple of days in the hospital and a few units of red blood cells later I was home.

My hematologist sent me for my 2nd bone marrow biopsy (Not Fun) which came back fine, we monitored counts and things were "back to normal" or so we thought.... The end of September my hematologist sent me to the emergency room for more transfusions... I was admitted to the hospital, received a few more units of red blood cells and we were back in business ( for 2 weeks). Since then I have needed regular transfusions and countless blood counts.

On a follow up appointment my Dr looked at me and said "Jill I have no idea what the hell is going on in your body" and with that..He sent me to Moffitt Cancer Center. I was seen almost immediately, a third bone marrow biopsy was done (again still not fun) and finally we have answers! I have been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome/myeloproliferative neoplasm. ( MDS/MPN)

Its a hybrid - hard to diagnose cancer..and this girl has it! ( would you expect any less)

My Dr at Moffitt also a ( Dr. K) said that he has seen many patients have itp for 10 + years and then it transitions into the MDS realm.

Whats next...Currently we are doing Chemo and then a bone marrow transplant within 3 months..
