Help Rebuild a Home

Donation protected
My name is Myles and never in a million year did I think as far inland as I live would a hurricane cause so much destruction; but this year, my first year in my home would I be shown very differently.
The journey of becoming a first time home owner was not an easy one in this economy, but I was determined and so was biggest supporter; my mother. Her and I have dreamed for years what my first home would like, sat for hours and read books on designing a garden, sent countless screenshots of interior decorating, and with one huge promise as well; a promise to my dog she would finally get a yard. Not all the talks were fun, it took a lot of understanding and accountability on my end to stick to budgeting and repairing my credit; but there month after month we started to see progress on my credit score and digits in my savings account.
After almost a year I finally made it to a point that I could actually make this dream a reality for us! We spoke to my brother who became my real estate agent and we got to looking. My brother showed us so many properties and my mom had amazing visions in some, but my brother came across a private listing, and it was everything we ever dreamt of!
We found my home!!
My home is a sweet charming mill home with the original doors and floors, the feeling of home that out comforts the smell of fresh baked chocolate chips cookies. When the time came to purchasing the house, we were so full of ideas, I decided to take up a part time job at Petsmart close by. Our first project was putting in a fence so the promise I made would finally be her happy place to run and play while mom and I gardened. With the same determination that got us here to the house, got my dog her yard and boy did she love showing off her speed!
Now fast forward to September 27, 2024; it’s 5:30am and the loudest thing is ever heard was this day, Hurricane Helene. Tree after tree was falling all around us, complete darkness and the constant trembling of both the house and us. The wind speeds were over 50mph, trees that had been around long before my home were uprooted and laid destruction to the once peaceful home.
As the hurricane blew through the sun came out, and there we saw a truly heart breaking scene; trees fallen, power lines down (and still no power), and our fence destroyed.
I am making this account in hopes to rebuild a dream that I never thought I could make a reality. I am so grateful to be safe and that my loved ones are all as well, but now is the time to come back and figure out how to move forward.
I thank you for taking time to read my story and I can not express the gratitude for any help that can be offered and given. Thank you and may you all stay safe and lead with kindness.
