ΒΘΠ - Downtown Eastside Women's Centre Fundraiser

The Downtown Eastside (DTES) as a neighbourhood is well-known within Vancouver and even across Canada for its disproportionate levels of poverty and extreme marginalization. Home to many vulnerable populations including those who are homeless, mentally ill, and/or with addictions, it is also a place known for its creativity, community activism, and tenacity in the face of tremendous stigma.

Many of the women living in this community did not choose the impoverished lives they were given, and the men of Beta Theta Pi wish to lend a helping hand. These women, who some see as strangers, we see as mothers, sisters, and daughters. To show our appreciation to the incredible impact our own mothers, sisters, and future daughters have had or will have on our lives, we will be fundraising and accepting donations of materials for the Drop-In Centre and 24-Hour Emergency Shelter provided by the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC).

Material donations can be dropped off at the donation bin in the front yard of our house, located at 2140 Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 1W6. According to the DEWC's Donation Wishlist, these are the items that the women of the Downtown Eastside are in need of most (https://dewc.ca/donation-faq):
