Patsy Dickey's Kick Cancer Campaign
Why?
Patsy has been diagnosed with liver cancer. Her kidneys are also failing, causing her to need both kidney and liver transplants. In order to remain on the transplant list, she must maintain the insurance she receives through work, as well as afford the frequent exams which monitor her eligibility.
Who is Patsy?
Patsy makes me laugh daily, working together at Highland Park’s Royal Blue Grocery. She teases me like family, while running circles around her younger coworkers. If you are a Royal Blue customer, chances are you know Patsy; her blue earrings and her smile. Maybe she has your coffee order memorized, maybe she has made your lunch, or maybe she’s been the first person to ask you how your day is going. Despite her diagnosis, Patsy still comes to work every day and makes me laugh. She still sets out to have the “best day ever", as she likes to call it, and takes care of customers with a smile. Everyday, Patsy takes care of so many people, and now its time for us to take care of Patsy.
How your donation can help:
Your donation will first go towards funding Patsy’s insurance payments when she can no longer work. This is crucial to her eligibility for a transplant. Her medication alone, post transplant, will cost $135,000/month. Additionally, Patsy would love to remain in her current home, a small apartment she rents for $600/month, as opposed to moving in with others. If she is not able to receive a transplant before the cancer spreads beyond her liver, Patsy will need our help to cover the cost of her cancer treatment.
