Bernice is a 17 year old girl from Monrovia, Liberia. A few years ago, she won a scholarship to attend school for the first time. She is a very dedicated student and has since been promoted to the fifth grade. I met Bernice in her school where I am currently conducting a research project. I am a master's student from Canada studying girls and education in Liberia. I have become close with Bernice and her family and would really love to help them.
Bernice's life has been ravaged by war, poverty, and Ebola. She lives in a disadvantaged community in Monrovia with many challenges, yet she remains incredibly positive and hopeful.
Sadly, Bernice's home burned down yesterday, leaving herself, her mother, two sisters, and brother homeless. They lost everything, yet one of their biggest concerns was whether Bernice and her siblings would be able to attend classes on Monday without their uniforms and bookbags.
Your generous donation will help support Bernice and her family who are in desperate need of shelter as the rainy season approaches. It will also ensure that Bernice and her siblings will be able to stay in school.
$2000 will go towards building a concrete home with a tin roof. The home will consist of one kitchen/living area and two bedrooms:
-Concrete structure: $1200
-Zinc roof with wood beams: $800
I will be here in Monrovia to help coordinate the building process and will administer all funds, paying for all materials and builders' salaries.
Should we surpass our goal of $2000, all additional funds will go towards purchasing mattresses, kitchen supplies, clothing, and all other necessities. Bernice, her family, and I will be forever grateful for any support. $1, $2, $3 or more will go a long way to ensuring this family's well-being. No donation is too small! Thank you so much!
