Hola!

My name is José Antonio Ibarra Rodriguez and I plan to attend Rush Medical College in Chicago this fall! I am from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Why I plan to attend Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL if there’s medical schools in Texas?

Everyone that knows me, knows that medicine has always been a lifelong career that I will continue to pursue with my utmost passion and determination. However, I cannot pursue that passion in Texas because its medical schools do not accept students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Thus, forcing me to apply to medical schools out of state. Additionally, DACAmented medical students are not eligible for any type of federal aid. So I am asking for this, help me begin my journey to becoming a doctor by raising funds to help establish myself in a new city and help pay for my tuition. Even though I’m going to school away from home, I will never forget where I come from and the community that has helped me get to this point.
