Miracle for Maria Tiano

Maria's story by Amy Archer:

"It's a boy", the tears streamed down Maria and Enzo's face, their HEALTHY baby was here! Healthy was the key word and truly what they were celebrating. For it was 3 years before Alexander was born, Maria and Enzo said goodbye to their precious daughter Alexia, who died only 4 days after her third birthday from complications following a Heart transplant, which she received at 3 months old.

It was a novelty having a healthy newborn; Maria and Enzo felt so blessed and were cherishing every moment, which lead Maria to decide to hold off having her overgrown fibroid removed until after Alexander's baptism celebration. The baptism was a beautiful day filled with family and friends, joy and celebration.

Maria's surgery was scheduled for the following week and it was becoming visually obvious that this "fibroid" was growing and needed to be removed. Maria gave her 3 month old Alex and husband Enzo a kiss and wheeled into surgery to have this very uncomfortable fibroid removed. Maria was feeling relieved!

I will never forget Enzo's voice on the other end of the phone saying "It's not good. The doctors didn't remove anything. They had to close Maria back up and now we are waiting for the news." News! What news? There couldn't possibly be any more bad news for Maria and Enzo.

They had already received bad news that their newborn baby daughter needed a heart transplant; then the bad news when she was one and a half years-old she had post-transplant lymphoma disease (PTLD is a certain type of cancer following a transplant); then they were told the bad news that when she was two-years-old she needed a bone marrow transplant; then they heard the news that when she was almost 3 she may be in cardiac rejection; then they heard the news that their baby Alexia, was gone.

Their lives were being restored. They received a miracle when their baby Alexander was born. Life was starting to feel finally normal.

The news came... it was their worst nightmare; Cancer. Maria was diagnosed with advanced lieomyosarcoma (LMS) and it was invading her kidney, liver, bowel and duodenum. She needed to start treatment right away and receive life-saving surgery to remove the tumors. Her precious 3 month old, Alex, stayed with his Grandparents, while his mama completed 5 rounds of chemo, 6 weeks of radiation and finally underwent 14 hours of surgery.

I will never forget the day when Maria said "I had to say goodbye to one child, I refuse to say goodbye to another!"

Ever since September 2011, Maria has been faced with remission, relapse, new treatments, multiple surgeries and looking for treatment options that will extend her life to reach her life goal of seeing her son, Alexander, graduate and then get married!

Maria and Enzo have faced having to seek medical advice, second opinions and treatment outside of Canada. This seems to be something they may have to continue to do, due to the rarity of her cancer and the lack of treatment options available here in Canada.

We, as her family, friends and community are coming together with hope in our hearts and determination to help support Maria on this journey. We are coming together to show Maria, Enzo, Alex and their angel Alexia that they are deeply loved, cared for and are not alone!

Please share prayers, inspirational messages and anything that will promote love and healing for Maria and her family!!

All donations will be used towards medical treatments and associated expenses that are incurred on this courageous journey towards fulfilling her life's dream.

Thank you all for your generosity and love.
