Liran Cohen - a long journey ahead
Donation protected
On Sunday October 3, 2021 the world changed.
Liran Cohen was driving home when a drunk driver in a stolen vehicle flew through his red light and t-boned her car. The driver is in jail but the lives of Liran and everyone who loves her are forever changed.
For the first few weeks her condition was such that even emergency surgeries had to be postponed because she was not stable enough. Since then, Liran has undergone a number of major and complex surgeries to save her life and to put her badly-broken body back together. She was on a ventilator for five weeks and in a deep coma for nine. Through it all, Liran’s well-known and much-loved feistiness pushed her through injuries that both first responders and surgeons did not think she would survive.
Those of us who know Liran know she’s a fighter. That fight continues … but it is going to be a long, difficult and expensive road. Her brain needs much healing, so does her body. Many many months – possibly years – of extensive therapy are required. The hope is to eventually move her back to Toronto where she can be closer to more of her family and built-in supports.
Medical insurance obtained after the accident is covering her current medical treatment. The family was counting on using the proceeds of an expected insurance settlement to cover the pre-insurance expenses and post-insurance move back to Toronto. Unfortunately, we now know that the maximum payout from the insurance claim will cover less than the first day of her initial care. The resulting funding gap is huge.
We all want to support the best possible outcome for Liran and many people, from around the world, have asked how they can help. With the consent of Liran’s family we have set up this Go Fund Me page to help cover the costs associated with Liran’s recovery. Though the family may not be in a position to acknowledge each and every donation, please know that you have their sincerest gratitude and appreciation for contributions both large and small.
On behalf of Liran and her family, thank you all for your interest and your kindnesses large and small. Let us hope that through our prayers, donations, and good deeds that Liran Cohen merits a complete and speedy recovery and returns to her family and friends very soon with all of her dynamic, feisty, creative, stylish and loving energy.
