Help Manny Dance Again!

Good Day!

My name is Manny de Jesus and I’m in need of your generosity :)

Last month, I had the misfortune of injuring my right knee during a basketball game hosted by the Okanagan Filipino Community (OFC). After several visits with doctors across the Okanagan, I’ve now confirmed a grade 3 ACL tear with a displaced bone fragment (2.5x2x0.5cm).

While surgery will likely be necessary, the severity of this injury has already impacted my quality of life. It is difficult to maintain income through my career in performance art, contract-based education, and hospitality. I cannot drive, travel far, or experience leisure like I used to. The estimated recovery period for an injury like mine can take anywhere from 2-14 months.

Emergency funds are holding me off for now, but they are depleting faster than expected. Bills from physiotherapy, monthly payments, assistive equipment, public transport, groceries — and more, are piling up. Unfortunately, the promised compensation from OFC’s benefits program has yet to be seen (if at all).

That is why I am proactively launching this campaign so the financial and psychosocial strain does not fall on my immediate family and loving partner, Anne.

And I’m asking you to give what you can. Whether you’re an old friend who has enjoyed our time together, a student who valued one of my classes, or a fan who appreciated my art on stage — you have the chance to really help me out here.
