Hi, my name is Jasmyn and I'm fundraising for my sweet fur baby, Behr, who was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia at the age of 4. He has arthritic spurs going all down his spine and hips that affect the way he moves and causes him constant pain. After several vet checks and x-rays, I was told that his ball and joint should be sitting in around 75% while Behr's is less than 15% on both sides with his left side being worse. My only option for Behr is a Total Hip Replacement which will give him back full mobility, pain relief, and significantly improve his quality and duration of life. For several years he’s been on prescription food, medications, supplements, shots, physical therapy all for his hips and joints to mitigate the disorder. I have removed all high impact activities from his daily life and included alternative ways of mentally and physically stimulating him. However, if you know Behr, you know he is a high energy dog who loves to go on runs, fetch, hike, swim, etc. It all has helped, but eventually without the surgery he will lose all mobility and the pain will continue to worsen. He is 6 years old and his quality of life has reduced drastically due to increasing pain and arthritis, limited mobility, and absence of his favorite activities. He has trouble just getting up and down and shows several signs that he is in pain. It's hard for him to jump onto furniture, my car and in general move around without his stairs or my help. Since he is over 90lbs I have a hard time being able to pick him up myself. He is my absolute everything and it is incredibly hard to watch his health decline like it has, so I have started a GoFundMe in hopes of raising the money to provide Behr a Total Hip Replacement. Since pet insurance rules his hip dysplasia as pre-existing they will not cover any of it unfortunately. I have already consulted with a surgeon and gotten an estimate. It will be roughly $12,000 for each hip. After his left hip is healed, he will have a 12 week recovery and then his right hip will be done. The $25,000 cost will cover the surgery for both hips, medications, and any additional needs Behr will have. Once we have reached the goal of $12,000 I will go ahead and start his surgery on the left hip. I am grateful for anything that is donated, and if you are unable to donate please share Behr's story. I will continue to save as much as I can for the surgery as well, and my hope is to get Behr the THR as soon as possible even if only for one hip.
